2.0 | what’s the problem?
2.2 | Tim’s tech career background
Tim has had experience before at a few notable companies:
Seattle Mariners
Costco IT
Intel
University of Washington - Seattle
Tim graduated in 2022 when the tech layoffs officially began.
Ever since then, the market has had its highs and lows…
Tim however, is still actively searching for a new role.
2.1 | tech industry background
2022-2024 has had the largest amount of tech layoffs in history thus far:
164,969 layoffs with 1064 tech companies in 2022 (layoffs.fyi)
262,595 layoffs with 1188 tech companies in 2023 (layoffs.fyi)
25,136 layoffs with 98 tech companies in 2024 (layoffs.fyi)
… but what happens after? what’s it like trying to get a new job in 2022-2024?
there’s a lack of transparency and data on what it’s actually like from an individual’s perspective.
2.3 | Problem Statement
How can Tim keep track of all his job hunting endeavors so that he can bring greater transparency on what it’s like to job hunt in tech whilst also providing more insights for individuals both new/old on how to approach job hunting in 2024?

4.1 | key takeaways
cold applying to companies isn’t the best method! through connections will produce quicker results.
if you don’t have 4-5+ years of experience, there is no point in applying to big tech (FAANG). focus. on. small companies.
spikes in job hunting is okay and normal. some days you’ll have more motivation and some days you won’t.
job hunting in tech can take time with a lot of rejections…

the stress and anxiety can get to you.
take breaks when you need to.
Be open and flexible to new locations for new experiences!
